Where do these cases usually turn?
On authority. A shared password, a former employee whose access was never switched off, a family member's device. The fact that a password worked does not by itself prove criminal intent. We look at who set up the access, who was told and what the logs show.
What happens if my phone or laptop is taken?
Devices may be seized and examined as evidence. Do not delete anything and do not volunteer passwords before advice. We ask what is being searched and on what basis, and review the extraction report for gaps.
What should I do if I am summoned?
Call us before you attend. We can go with you, review what you are asked to sign and make sure your account matches the documents. Statements given early are hard to retract. For related corporate matters see corporate network access.

WhatsApp usCommon questions
Is using a former colleague's login a crime?
It can be, depending on authority and intent. Facts decide. Do not speak to the complainant before advice.
Can the complainant withdraw?
For some offences the complainant's position affects how the case proceeds. We confirm whether it applies.

Penalties depend on the exact article charged, the facts and any aggravating or mitigating circumstances, so we do not quote ranges here. It is not legal advice, and no result is guaranteed.
